Sudan’s Humanitarian Crisis

Since the conflict began in April 2023, Sudan has faced widespread displacement, food insecurity, disrupted healthcare, and the destruction of essential services. Millions of families have been forced to leave their homes in search of safety, while children and other vulnerable people face especially severe challenges.

The Crisis in Numbers

Behind Every Statistic Is a Human Life

33.7 million people are projected to need humanitarian assistance in Sudan in 2026.

17.3 million children need humanitarian assistance.

19.5 million people face crisis-level acute food insecurity or worse.

More than 825,000 children under five are expected to suffer from severe acute malnutrition in 2026.

Families have lost homes, livelihoods, loved ones, and access to basic necessities. Displacement has separated communities and placed enormous pressure on neighboring countries and host communities supporting those who have fled.

Many Sudanese families have sought safety in eastern Chad, including people fleeing violence in West Darfur. Families arriving in refugee-hosting areas often face difficult living conditions and urgent needs for shelter, food, healthcare, clean water, and other essentials.
